GuruTimer is quite simply a 10,000 hour countdown clock that allows you to set and track your personal goals. Would you like to be a Guru? To truly be the best at something? Well it’s not as hard as you might think and requires only two things (10,000 hours of practice and the fortitude to see it through to the end.)

That is why we built the GuruTimer! It’s clean minimal interface has one purpose, to help you realize your Guru quest by breaking down your 10,000 hour journey into small attainable bite sized pieces. For each 1000 hours of practice, you will move up one of ten Levels:

1) Rookie
2) Student
3) Proficient
4) Qualified
5) Efficient
6) Skilled
7) Talented
8) Professional
9) Expert
10) Guru

As you work your way through each level you can see you progress by clicking on the Goal/Level Button. This display’s your current goal and your level within that goal, plus a visual indicator with 100 dot’s that represent 10 hours each of practice as you drive forward toward your next level. To return to your countdown screen your simply need to click the Goal/Level Button again.
You can also add new goals if you like under the options button, once a new goal is added it is easy to switch back and forth between them by returning to the options dialog and selecting current goal.
But what if you have already accumulated hundreds or even thousands of hours of practice already and want to adjust the time of one of your goals? That’s easy too, just select OPTION then EDIT GOALS. Inside this area you can add or remove as much time as you like and also turn on our MOTIVATION feature. Not only does your GuruTimer act as a central repository of all your effort towards your goal but it also provides a gentle nudge every now and then when you begin to slow down. By selecting MOTIVATION you will be prompted to enter a message that will be sent to yourself via push notification, you will also be asked to set a time of inactivity of your goal before this personal motivational message is sent to you.

All these features are designed to help keep you going toward your GuruTumer Goal’s, but not everything is about function. Form and aesthetics are vital to us as well, that is why we have included different interface colours to match the colour of your device because sometimes a change of scenery can also be a refreshing motivator. Just to keep it fresh we have included the choice of three different interface’s (Black, Silver and White). We know there isn’t a silver device but we just couldn’t resist when we saw how cool it looked!

So there it is.

Everything you need to start, the only thing left standing between you and becoming a Guru is the choice to do it and the commitment to bring your GuruTimer Countdown clock to zero!

Remember, the best aren’t born, their built. 10,000 hours at a time!

About the 10,000 hour rule

Mozart, The Beetles, Bill Gates and Tiger Woods all have one thing in common. They all spent over 10,000 hours perfecting there craft. The 10,000 hour rule is far from a new discovery. It has been proven time and time again by those who have committed to it throughout history.
Recently, it has been brought back out into the lime light by the author Malcolm Gladwell in his book Outliers. Gladwell points out that Bill Gates spent most of his childhood in a computer lab acquiring over 10,000 hours of practice by the time he started his company. The Beetles are another good example, playing eight hour straight gigs in Hamburg Germany for weeks on end. These are just a few of the many examples of those determined enough to succeed by relentlessly driving through 10,000 hours of practice to obtain the Guru status they so rightly deserve.
